Abraliopsis felis
Distribution:
California Current and across the Pacific Ocean to Japan.
Habitat:
Pelagic; over water depths greater than 200m. At night between 0- 50 m.
Size:
Paralarvae: 1.3 to 5.3 mantle length (ML). Adults: 30 to 80 mm (ML).
Diet:
Small fishes and crustaceans.
Predators:
Fishes, squids, marine mammals, and seabirds.
Useful Facts or Characters:
The mantle is conical, broadest anteriorly; tapers posteriorly and terminates in a sharp point.
Natural History:
A small squid that is quite abundant off the west coast of the U.S.
