California waters.
Habitat:
Coastal, particularly bays and harbors.
Size:
15-20 mm bell diameter, as adults.
Diet:
Small pelagic and benthic crustaceans.
Useful Facts or Characters:
Polyorchis haplus has fewer tentacles than P. penicillatus, up to 30. P. haplus is a bit more stout and may have a more golden-brown color. They bear 4 radial canals that are usually unbranched.
Natural History:
Commonly called a bell jelly.
