Planktonic larvae, sessile adults.

The larva is usually triangular in shape, very flattened, and enclosed by a chitinous shell.

Natural History: 

The cyphonautes larva is the planktonic propagule of benthic bryozoans.  Usually found in shallow-water and can be common in some seasons.
