Euphausia recurva
Distribution:
Subtropical in all ocean basins, except North Atlantic.
Habitat:
At 200-500 m in the daytime and above the thermocline at night.
Size:
8 -16 mm
Diet:
Microplankton.
Predators:
Important prey for fish, birds and whales.
Useful Facts or Characters:
Medium-sized round eye, long pointed rostrum, lappet is sexually dimorphic (males reflexed leaf-like, females shorter vertical forked process). No abdominal spines.
Natural History:
Usually more abundant offshore in the California Current.
